It was first mentioned in the Laurentian Chronicle under 1177.

Kolomna is one of the oldest cities in the Moscow region. The city arose on the picturesque high bank of the Moskva River at the confluence of the Kolomenka River. From an economic point of view, the place of foundation of the city was chosen very well: the confluence of the Moscow and Oka rivers was the crossroads of the most important water trade routes. And the location of the city at the turn of the Vladimir-Suzdal and Ryazan lands was extremely beneficial strategically and made it possible to control the territories of the upper and lower reaches of the Oka with the Moskva River basin.

The name of the city is associated with the common Slavic root "kolo" (circle, circle), or it is traced back to the Turkic word "kolm" (grave, cemetery). Historians believe that the frontier fortress city of Kolomna was founded by the Ryazan prince Gleb in order to strengthen his borders and strengthen the economic, political and strategic position of Ryazan. Since that time, many goods from the south to Vladimir began to go through Kolomna. The Vladimir prince could not put up with the strengthening of the Ryazan principality. It is because of the feud between the two princes in the Laurentian Chronicle that the city of Kolomna is first mentioned under 1177, which is conventionally considered the date of the city's foundation.

In the second half of the 19th - early 20th century, after the construction of the machine-building plant in the city, Kolomna became one of the largest industrial centers in Russia. In March 1869, the plant produced the first steam locomotive, in 1903 - the three thousandth one. In addition, the plant manufactured bridges, including Borodinsky, Krasnokholmsky, Moskvoretsky and Krymsky in Moscow, Liteiny and Dvortsovy in St. Petersburg, a bridge across the Dnieper in Kiev, produced wagons, river vessels, locomotives, dredging machines, and weaving looms.

Today Kolomna is an independent modern city, industrial, transport and cultural center of the Moscow region. All conditions have been created here for a comfortable and civilized life of the population. The widespread infrastructure is a combination of elements of school, preschool and higher education; trade, medicine, sports facilities. Residential complexes include not only comfortable apartments, but also parking lots, sports and recreation areas. That is why many citizens who decide to buy housing in the Moscow region make a choice in favor of Kolomna.
